The “Lightbulb” Moment
The Green Baskit story didn’t start in a boardroom; it started in a community market in Northern Nigeria back in April 2016. Our co-founder, George Mbam, was blown away by the incredible variety of local seeds, fruits, and snacks. They were fresh and delicious but often produced in ways that weren’t exactly… hygienic.
He thought, “Why hasn’t anyone refined and repackaged these gems?”
Like most of us, he forgot that brilliant idea for a while. But three years later, in December 2019, the thought returned with a challenge: “What if it’s your responsibility to make this happen?”
By March 2020, Green Baskit was born in a mini-facility in Lagos with just seven employees—including George and his wife. Today, we’re a growing family of 50 “Baskiteers” (and one very busy delivery motor!).
What Does “Green Baskit” Mean?
Green → Represents nature, freshness, and the abundance of organic food found across Africa.
Baskit → A curated collection of wholesome snacks (yes, we tweaked “basket” a bit—we like to be different 😉)
Together, it represents a basket of nature’s finest, reimagined for modern living.

We noticed that as we move toward “refined” foreign snacks, we’re losing our cultural treats that are actually more nutritious than their processed counterparts.
